Apple iPad Air 4 Review – Arguably the Best Tablet Out There.

A While back when the Apple iPad Air 4 or the iPad Air 2020 was released at that time no one had that tablet not even a review or sample unit, but just by the specs it was looking an excellent smartphone, and its SoC the Apple A14 Bionic was thought to be more powerful or at least on par with the SoC in the iPad Pro, the A12Z Bionic, At that time its was all in thoughts and one would have tested it, obviously excluding some Apple employees.
But now as we have actual iPad Air 4 in hand, all those speculations are now becoming to be true.

Design and Build Quality

ipad Air

The Build Quality of the iPad Air 4 is excellent, it has an Aluminium Frame and an Aluminium Back, and a Fully Laminated Display with Anti-Reflective Coating, it has one of the best build quality for a tablet, and certainly the best in this price range.
Also, it feels excellent in hand and comfortable to hold.
Boxy grip sides, great feeling in the hand.

Now Coming to the Design it has an excellent design and a big upgrade from the previous years iPad Air, on the back they both may seem the same, but from the front, there is a big difference, the bezels are now thinner, much thinner, and has no Touch-ID on the bezels, it’s now integrated on the power button, and that may seem a bit problematic for many people out there.

Like Previously when it had the Touch-ID at the bottom it was a comfortable position to unlock as when one would hold they will surely place their thumb around the bottom center, it was the right place for Touch-ID.
But now that the Touch-ID is integrated into the Power Button every time we have to reach the power button to use the Touch-ID, which is a bit uncomfortable.

The 2020 iPad Air 4 has a bigger screen as compared to the 2019 Model, it’s 10.9 inches in 2020 compared to 10.5 inches in 2019.
It has a Liquid Retina display 10.9-inch (diagonal) with LED-backlit Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology, a native resolution of 2360×1640-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (PPI), and has True Tone display.

It’s the same old 60Hz display, and that 60Hz Hurts when using the Apple Pencil as one can see some lags, and when coming from iPad Pro to iPad Air the lag is easily seen.
But If your work doesn’t require a 120Hz or 90Hz Display then it’s an excellent display.

Performance is the biggest upgrade from the 2019 model to the 2020 model, the 2020 iPad Air is powered by the new Apple A14 Bionic, the newest chip from Apple. It’s the first chip in the world to be based on 5nm architect, it’s a 6-Core CPU with 4-Core GPU and a 16‑core Neural Engine.

First here are some Benchmarks

iPad’sSingle CoreMulti CoreGPU Score
iPad Pro 20181120462010890
iPad Pro 20201121464611690
iPad Air 2019111128305260
iPad Air 20201575425012490
Geekbench CPU GPU Score
Apple iPad Air 4 Review - Arguably the Best Tablet Out There. 11

So the iPad Air 4 is around 40% faster than the iPad Pro 2020 in the Single-Core Test, and around 8% slower in Multi-Core Test, and around 7% faster in GPU Score.
So yeah the Apple A14 Bionic is better than the A12Z Bionic in some cases.
Overall if you consider the price difference the 8% slower in the Multi-Core test doesn’t seem much.

Memory and Storage

It has 4GB of RAM and has 2 storage options 64GB and 256GB.

Optics also has an upgrade this the 2020 model now has a 12MP lens compared to the 8MP lens on the 2019 model.
It has a Single-Camera Setup
12MP Wide camera
ƒ/1.8 aperture

Video Recording options include
4K video recording at 24 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps
1080p HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps
Slow-motion video support for 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps

For Selfies, it has a 7MP camera ƒ/2.0 aperture Lens.

The Camera setup is excellent for a Tablet.

It has a Built‐in 28.6‐watt-hour Battery.
It will easily last for around a Day of Usage.
Also, it comes with a 20W charger as compared to the 18W in the iPad Pro

It has a Quad Stereo speaker setup almost identical to that of the iPad Pros, simply meaning it’s one of the best out there.

It has Touch-ID integrated into the power button, it’s a bit slow but that can be fixed by software updates, and hopefully, Apple does so.

It’s is running on IOS 14, which is great for normal use and is also great for use as a desktop as it supports the Magic Keyboard and touchpad.

It Supports 2nd generation Apple Pencil and also supports, the Magic Keyboard and Trackpad.
The Magic Keyboard is arguably the best keyboard for a tablet out there.
Also, there is WiFi 6

Apple iPad Air 4 Pricing

The iPad Air 4 Starts at ₹54,900 for the 64GB WiFi-only variant and Rs 66,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model in 64GB.

Apple iPad Air 4(2020) can arguably the best tablet out there.
It has an excellent display(obviously excluding the 60Hz Display), Excellent Build Quality, Excellent Performance, Excellent Camera Setup, Excellent Battery life, and Supports the Current generation Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, the Current generation is easily the best keyboard available for a Tablet, and is even better than 90% of the laptop keyboard out there.

Everything iPad pro can do iPad air can also do that, and that too at the same level or even better, the only exception is the refresh rate.

The iPad Pro 2020 is the best option, but it all comes down to the apple pencil, if you can use the 120Hz display then iPad Pro is the one for you, if not then iPad Air is the best, also if look at the Price to Performance Ratio the iPad Air 4 At ₹54,900 is much better than the 2020 iPad Air at ₹71,900.
For ₹17,000 you are losing out on an Ultrawide+ LiDAR Sensor and 120Hz Display.
