The 2020 Acer Nitro 5 - The Best Nitro 5 Ever. 10

The 2020 Acer Nitro 5 – The Best Nitro 5 Ever.

The Acer Nitro 5 series is famous for its price tag. They try to provide excellent specs at an affordable price tag. But the Nitro 5 series, is also infamous for their thermals, they always have one of the worst thermals, just look at the 2017,2018,2019 models they have good specs, but very bad thermals, the thermals very bad enough, that if someone told me that they were going to buy an Acer Nitro 5, then I would say wait, spend a bit more but don’t buy the Nitro 5.

But that is going to change in 2020, the 2020 Acer Nitro 5 is excellent, or more likely to say the base model of the 2020 Acer Nitro 5 series is excellent, it has excellent specs for the price tag, and superb thermals also, but still it has its own set of flaws.
Check it out here in the Detailed Specification Overview and Review of The 2020 Acer Nitro 5(Ryzen 5 4600H+GTX 1650).

Specification Details

Design and Build Quality

Design is very similar to that of the Old Nitro 5’s, a plastic body, but the plastic is of good quality, Acer logo on the top, the laptop has gaming aesthetic to it.
Opening the lid we have the display with two side narrow bezels and webcam on the top, the keyboard is a full size one with Numpad, but feels a bit on the tighter side.

The 2020 Nitro 5 has a 15.6-inch IPS-LCD, LED-backlit Display, with a native resolution of 1920X1080(FHD), and a refresh rate of 60Hz, you can opt for a higher refresh rate model, but that is simply not worth the money, the 60Hz model has the best price to performance ratio.
The Display has 68% RGB and 48% Adobe RGB color gamut, and it has a max brightness of 266 its which is kind of on the lower side.

The Display is not great for Shooter games and video/photo editing, but given the price range if you play games which don’t need high refresh rate and high color accuracy then this laptop is an excellent option; also an excellent option for students whose main priority’s are CAD/CAM and are looking for a good laptop in this price range.

The Nitro 5 has most probably the best price to performance for any laptop out there.
It is powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H.
A 6 Core 12 Threaded with a base clock of 3.0GHz and a boost clock of 4.0GHz, with a default TDP of 45-W.
This is for the base model. Other options are powered by the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs,’ but their price to performance is not high.

As for GPU it has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650, 4GB GDDR6 VRAM.

If we talk about the gaming performance, if you have no issue with the screen, then you won’t have any problem with the gaming performance of this laptop, it can handle almost all the AAA titles easily.
As for other options like Video/Photo Editing, CAD/CAM, rendering, and other stuff like that, again, if you are ok with the display, then with this model, you getting the best for your buck.

Thermals are the biggest and the most significant upgrade from the previous Nitro 5’s it has excellent thermals; there were no issues of the thermal throttling.

When heavy use requires an added boost, chill out with twin fans, Acer CoolBoost™ technology and quad exhaust port design. CoolBoost™ increases fan speed by 10% and CPU/GPU cooling by 9% compared to auto mode. Monitor and manage your system in real time with NitroSense, covering temperatures, fan speeds and more.

Memory and Storage

With the base Nitro 5 you are getting an 8GB DDR4 SDRAM, in a single channel, it can be upgraded up to 32GB DDR4 SDRAM in Dual channel with 2X16GB RAM Sticks.
As for Storage, we are getting 256GB PCIe SSD+1TB HDD.

Nitro 5 has a 40-Wh 4 Cell Lithium-Ion Battery with a 135-W Power Adapter.
you can easily get a battery life of around 3 hours.

I/O Ports

Given the Price Tag is an excellent I/O Port selection
1X USB 3.2 Gen 1
2X USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
1X USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C
1X RJ 45
1X Kingston Lock
1X 3.5mm Audio Combo.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The Overall Keyboard typing experience was good, it’s a full-size keyboard with Numpad, but while gaming people with bigger hands may feel some difficulties with the WASD key’s as they are a bit cramped, they are closer than usual, so it may take some time to get used to it, or you may never get used to it.

The trackpad is made of plastic, but the overall feel is good, and also, it’s pretty accurate, the only problem is the positing its a bit more tilted towards the left, which may cause issues while playing games.

Overall its better if you an external keyboard and mouse.

Audio at best is average, so lets not talk about it.

Nitro 5 doesnt have any fingerprint reader, and also there is no information on windows hello support, so there is just the standard pin/password system.

Nitro 5 has
WiFi 6
Bluetooth 5.

Acer Nitro 5 Pricing

The Base Model of the Nitro 5, which has the best price to performance ratio, is priced at $670, and in India it is expected to price around ₹60,000-₹65,000.

The Ryzen 7 4800H Version

There are Two bad things, First the less bad thing, the Display given the Price Tag, its reasonable, but still if you are into shooter’s and Video/Photo editing, you should once use it to see whether it suits you or not, now the second and the more unfortunate thing, the WASD keyboard positioning, they are very cramped so people with big hands will most probably never be able to use it properly. Also, the trackpad positioning is tilted towards left, so there is a problem of accidental touches while gaming; all this can be solved with an external keyboard and mouse, but that’s upto you.

Other than this flaws it doesn’t have any other weakness, the build quality is excellent for the price tag, the performance is excellent and one of the best if not the best for this price tag, Audios are a bit on the low side, but that’s not a deciding factor for a gaming laptop, Memory and storage options are also very good.
Overall if you are okay with the Display and Keyboard, then The Base Acer Nitro 5 is the best Gaming laptop one can buy at this price tag.
Also, don’t buy the higher model of the Nitro 5; at that price point, there are simply better options.
