iPhone 12 Review – The Best Non-Pro iPhone Till Now

Some Days Back, when the iPhone 12 was released, I posted an initial impression of it, and just by the specs, it was an excellent looking smartphone. Still, now after using it for some time, it’s truly something different from the older Non-Pro iPhones. It even has the potential to break the sales record the iPhone 11 had; it was the best selling iPhone. Still, with iPhone 12, it may just change, or it may be possible that the iPhone 12 Mini will be the best seller, but this Post is for the iPhone 12, and there will be a separate Review Post for the Amazing iPhone 12 Mini.

This post is a Detailed Review of the iPhone 12.

Design and Build Quality

The Outer body of the new iPhone 12 is somewhat very similar to that of the iPhone 4 and 5, but in a bigger form factor, and obviously, the notch and camera bump is the same as that of the iPhone 11, but now its 11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter, as compared to the iPhone 11.

As Said, the design is very similar to that of the iPhone 4, and 5, it’s a flat design, its has flats edges and a flat-screen, with a sharp corner, and honestly, there is nothing wrong in repeating a design if it’s such a good one, it’s completely different from any other smartphone flagship out there, and feels excellent and is comfortable in hand, and has excellent grip due to that flat edges.
The flat is better than the Curve, at least for smartphones.

The build quality is always excellent; Corning Gorilla Glass protects both the front and back, and it has an Aluminium Frame. The ceramic coating increases the shatter resistance exponentially. but, there is almost no improvement in scratch resistance.

one plus 8

iPhone 12 has the best display on a Non-Pro iPhone as of now, it has an OLED Display as compared to the LCD on previous Non-Pro iPhones, and there is a huge difference between the OLED and LCD; you are getting better contrast ratio, deep blacks, higher brightness and much more.
It has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED Display, with ~86% Screen to Body Ratio, a native resolution of 1170 x 2532 Pixels Resolution, a 19.5:9 Aspect Ratio, 460 PPI Pixel Density, and supports True-tone.

The Display is almost the same as that of the iPhone 12 Pro, with the 12 Pro being just a bit brighter; it has an excellent contrast ratio, deep blacks, and excellent color reproduction.
Overall you can say that it’s one of the best displays on a Smartphone out there, and if you exclude the criteria of Refresh rate, then it’s the best display on a smartphone out there, excluding the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.

The Apple A14 Bionic, which was in the iPad Air, is also powering the iPhone 12 Series line-up.
The iPhone 12 is powered by the Apple A14 Bionic, a Hexa-Core CPU with Apple 4-Core GPU.
As Said by Apple, it has 40% more transistors than the A13 Bionic.
And even the A13 Bionic was one heck of a processor; the A14 Bionic is the most powerful SoC out there as of now.
You won’t be able to differentiate between the 12 and 11 in day-to-day usage, as they are both excellent SoC.

Memory and Storage

iPhone 12 has 4GB of RAM and 3 Storage options 64/128/256GB of NVMe storage.

There is not much hardware difference between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11, the most notable hardware difference, is the F/1.6 primary lens on 12 as compared to the F/1.8 primary lens on the 11.

The iPhone 12 has a Dual Camera Setup

12 MP, f/1.6 (Wide Lens), dual pixel PDAF, OIS
12 MP, f/2.4, (Ultrawide Lens)

Video Recording Options include
[email protected]/30/60fps, [email protected]/60/120/240fps, HDR, Dolby Vision HDR (up to 30fps)

Front Facing camera has two sensors, but only one lens
12 MP, f/2.2(Wide Lens)
SL 3D, (depth/biometrics sensor)
[email protected]/30/60fps, [email protected]/60/120fps.

First for the Primary Lens.
Under normal lighting conditions, there is not much difference between the shots from 12 and 11. Still, when we move to the extreme ends like in very low light conditions, Super HDR Shots like Direct Sun Facing Shots, Auto Focus in Fast Moving objects, there is a huge difference; the shots from the 12 are much better and much clearer, they can easily be one of the best shots out there.

For Ultrawide Lens.
Same as that of the Primary lens in normal lighting conditions, but in low light conditions, there are some huge improvements like if the shots are taken in night mode, they can easily be the best low light ultrawide shots on any smartphones out there.

For Videos.
Absolute Best, nothing comes close to it, iPhone 12 shots the best video out there, with only the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max being better.

iPhone 12 has a 2815mAh Battery with 20W Fast charging.
The Battery life is a bit better than the iPhone 11, maybe due to the OLED Display, but is not better than the 11 Pro.
It will easily last you for more than a day and a half with typical usage.

iPhone 12 has a stereo speaker setup, with Spatial audio with Dolby Atmos.
The Speakers are excellent, one of the very best out there, they are loud, and the audio quality is excellent.

For Security, there is Face-ID and Pin, but in these Pandemic times where masks are a must, Face-ID is Pretty much useless in outdoor conditions.

iPhone 12 is running on iOS 14, its an excellent UI.

Its IP-68 Rated Water Resistance upto 6m for 30 mins.
Its also 5G Supported, and their one amazing thing in 5G, the iPhone 12, if used in a 5G supports area, will only use 5G when needed; if the tasks perform doesn’t need 5G speeds, then it will just be on 4G, and if the need arises for 5G then it will switch to 5G, it’s done to save battery.

There is Also MagSafe, which can be used to attach various things to the back of the smartphone, like the MagSafe Charger, which is a Qi Charger which charges at 15 W as compared to other Apple wireless charges which chargers at just 7.5W; you can also attach a magnetic wallet at the back.

Overall the iPhone 12 is an Excellent Smartphone and the Best Non-Pro iPhone Released as of now.
It’s just at ₹79,900; it may be a bit costlier in India, but I am pretty sure it will come under 70K in sales.
