The 2020 HP Omen 15, the Biggest and the Best Refresh yet.

HP has officially announced the 2020 HP Omen 15 Line-up, it was rumored back in April, and is powered by Intel Comet Lake-H{10th Gen H-Series}, and AMD Renoir-H{Ryzen 4000 series} processors.
Omen Laptops are generally for the upper-midrange options and provides better features than the cheaper pavilion options.
The whole chassis will be brand new, for better performance and better competition against the thin-and-light gaming laptops.

It also has IR thermopile sensors, which helps in better temperature sense.
The difference between the 2019 and 2020 HP Omen 15 is enormous.

This post is a detailed specification overview of the 2020 HP Omen 15.

Design and Build Quality

Just like any other upper-mid range gaming laptop, the HP Omen 15 is a bit on the chunkier side, but is still slimmer than most of the gaming laptops, on the top we have the Omen logo. The body is made of Metal; overall, the Design and Build Quality of the Omen 15 is excellent.

Display

HP Omen 15(Intel)

On the Intel Vraint of the Omen 15, we get a 15.6-inch FHD(1920X1080) IPS-LCD, WLEDbacklit Display, with a 300 Hz refresh rate, up to 300 nits of brightness, and a 72% NTSC, it has a screen to body ratio of ~80%.

HP Omen 15(AMD Ryzen)

The AMD Variant is almost the same as that of the Intel variant the only difference is that of the refresh rate of the display, on the AMD variant we get a 15.6-inch FHD(1920X1080) IPS-LCD, WLEDbacklit Display, with 144 Hz refresh rate, up to 300 nits of brightness, and a 72% NTSC, it has a screen to body ratio of ~80%.

Performance

HP Omen 15(Intel)

HP Omen 15 2020

Omen 15(Intel) can be configured up to Intel Core i7-10750H, a 6-core CPU with a base/boost clock of 2.6/5 GHz.
This processor is great for gaming, but if content creation is taken into consideration, then there are better processors out there.

HP Omen 15(AMD Ryzen)

HP Omen 15 AMD

Omen 15(AMD Ryzen) can be configure up to AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, an 8-core CPU, with a base/boost clock of 2.9/4.3 GHz.
This processor is great for content creation, CAD/CAM, rendering and other similar types of works, and is also able to play all the heavy titles at the high setting. Still, you will get around 5-10 FPS more in the Intel variant, due to the intel variant being clocked higher.

GPU can be configured from Nvidia GTX 1660ti, to Up to GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q

Memory and Storage

Both the Omen 15, the Intel and AMD variants have a similar type of RAM amount, but the RAM frequency is different
We have 16 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB) for the Intel variant
And
16 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB) for the AMD variant.

It’s great from HP to use this configuration as the performance of Intel chips are not dependent on RAM frequency but, the performance of AMD chips are dependent on RAM frequency.

Both the variants can be configured up to 1 TB of PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD

Battery

Both the variant of the Omen 15 have the same battery and power brick,
a 6-cell, 70.9 Wh Li-ion polymer battery, with a 200 W Smart AC power adapter.

AMD variant doesn’t have Thunderbolt 3, due to it being exclusive to the Intel(They have a patent for it).

Keyboard and Trackpad

Both the Omen 15 variant has the same type of keyboard and trackpad. The keyboard is a full-size type, meaning it has the Numpad on it.

Thermals

HP claims that the new Omen 15 will have 25 percent larger fans and 16 percent larger exhaust grilles for 62 percent higher airflow than on the last generation model.

HP Omen 15 Pricing

Both the Intel and AMD versions of the Omen 15 are now shipping for a starting price of $999 each( in the US).
No information about release date and pricing in India.

Conclusion

The HP Omen 15 2020 is the biggest refresh in the Omen series as of now. Also, it’s excellent from HP that they let choose the consumers between the Intel and AMD Chips.
Even though the AMD variant has a lot lesser refresh rate at 144Hz as compared to 300Hz on the Intel variant, I think its right as the AMD variant is more suited of content creation, CAD/CAM and similar type of work which does not require high refresh rate, while the sole purpose of the intel variant is gaming.
Also, the thermals are great, previous years, Omen 15 thermals were good, and this time HP claims that it has 25% better thermals, so looking forward to checking it.

The Specs which I have used here are from the HP site, but according to the source, it should have more variants(like more options in CPU/GPU), so be sure to look into that.
