Dimensity 820 is the latest addition to the MediaTek’s Dimensity Family.
MediaTek’s Dimensity series, pulled it out of the sinking boat, the Dimensity 1000 was a Great SoC but was not able to take on the Qualcomm’s Flagship Snapdragon 865, but was able to beat all other flagship SoC, then came the Dimensity 1000l which changed everything, it was easily able to beat its competition the Snapdragon 765G, and now we have the Dimensity 820.
So here we are gonna do a Detailed Specification overview of the Dimensity 820.

CPU
Unlike other mid-range SoC’s Dimensity 820 has a different type of Core setup, it has 4 Performance core and 4 efficiency cores,
4X Arm Cortex-A76 up to 2.6GHz
4X Arm Cortex-A55 up to 2GHz
As compared to the usual 2 performance and 6 effeciency cores on a normal Mid-Range SoC, this explains why it is able to perform much better than other Mid-Range SoC’s and even better than some past flagship’s.
GPU
820 has Arm Mali-G57 GPU it is the same one as the one used in Dimensity 800, but it has 5 cores instead of the usual 4 Core in 800.
AI
Dimensity 820 has MediaTek APU 3.0, as the AI engine, it is capable of Up to 2.4TOPs AI performance
ISP/Camera
820 has the Imagiq 5.0 ISP, it is capable of single 80MP lens or dual 32+16MP lens, and can have up to 4 camera sensors.
The IPS is great, it is capable of some great shots, but it is up to the manufacturer to use a good sensor with it.
Memory
820 has support for up to 2x 16bit LPDDR4X @ 2133MHz RAM
Display
It can support a Max Resolution of up to 2520 x 1080(FHD+)
With 120Hz Refresh Rate.
It also supports MiraVision display enhancement technology that offers OEMs to implement various software-based features to improve the viewing experience. It includes the ability to upscale low-res content to Full HD, HDR10 Remapping, blue light filter, and brightness dimmer for better nighttime reading experience and ClearMotion feature that automatically converts standard 24/30fps content to 60 or 120fps on supported displays.
Modem
It has Integrated 5G modem with 5G Sub-6GHz support, with a max download speed of up to 2300Mbps and a max upload speed of up to 1250Mbps
Connectivity
It has Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) + Bluetooth 5.1 support, which is normal for a mid-range SoC.
Benchmarks

These scores are much better than the Snapdragon 765G, also it is not too far from the HiSilicon Kirin 980.
So with these types of scores, there is a good chance that most of the upcoming mid-range smartphones are going to powered by Dimensity 820, also there is a good chance that these phones are going to be cheaper than the phones powered by the Qualcomm Mid-range Processors.
