Design and Build Quality

In Terms of Build Quality Both OnePlus, 8 and 7T are the same having an aluminum frame, and glass sandwich build.
On Design Front 8 is very different from 7T, on the back the circular camera module on the 7T is replaced by the better looking diverticular rectangular camera module, on the front the waterdrop notch from 7T is replaced by the hole punch on the 8.

Here it is upto you if like the 7T design the 7T is the winner if you 8’s design then 8 is the winner, it’s up to your perspective.

Display

Both the OnePlus 8 and 7T has the same display with the same screen size of 6.55-inch, the same type of panel Fuild AMOLED, the same native resolution of FHD+, the same aspect ratio of 20:9, the same pixel density of 402PPI, both have HDR10+ Support and 90Hz Refresh Rate, the only difference is Screen to Body Ratio which is ~89 on 8 and ~87 on 7T, not a big difference.

Here it is up to you, if like the hole-punch display then 8 is the winner, if you like waterdrop notch then 7T is the winner.

Performance

The Biggest Difference between the OnePlus 8 and 7T is the SoC used, 7T had the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+, while 8 has the Snapdragon 865, Snapdragon 865 is based on ARM A77, while the 855+ is based on ARM A76 Cores, So the difference between then is quite good.
On Antutu Benchmark the average score difference between the Snapdragon 865 and 855 is around 60000.
On Geekbench the average score difference between the Snapdragon 865 and 855 is 80 for single-core and 400 for multi-core tests.

In Normal day to day usage you won’t see the difference, the difference can only be seen if you use some compiling or rendering app on your phone.

But Here the One Plus 8 is the clear winner

Memory and Storage

Both the OnePlus 8 and 7T, have the same type of memory and storage, LPDDR4X memory and UFS3.0 Storage.
On the OnePlus 7T, you get 8GB of RAM while on 8 you get the options of 8/12GB of RAM.
Both have the same storage options. 128/256GB.

Camera/Optics

OnePlus 8 has a Triple Camera Setup
48 MP, f/1.8(Wide Lens) OIS, PDAF+CAF {Sony IMX586}
16 MP, f/2.2(Ultrawide Lens)
2 MP, f/2.4(Macro Lens)

OnePlus 7T also has a triple camera setup
48 MP, f/1.6, (Wide Lens), OIS, PDAF+CAF {Sony IMX586}
12 MP, f/2.2 (Telephoto Lens) 2x optical zoom
16 MP, f/2.2(Ultrawide Lens)

OnePlus 8 has a well-balanced Camera setup, with all the sensors which are mostly used in day to day usage, But if we compare it with the One Plus 7T then it is kind of a downgrade as One Plus 7T has the same 48MP sensor and the same 16MP ultrawide lens but has a much needed 12MP telephoto lens if we compare the Main and ultrawide shots then the difference is there between the 7T and 8, but it is not that huge, Overall the OnePlus 7T has a much better camera setup.

Battery

OnePlus 8 has a 4300mAh Battery with 30 Watt Fast Charging support, but no Wireless charging.
One Plus 7T has a 3800mAh Battery with 30 Watt Fast Charging support, but again no Wireless charging.
Here 8 is the winner due to its larger battery capacity

Audio

OnePlus 8 Audio Features include
Dual Stereo Speakers
Noise cancellation support
Dolby Atmos

One Plus 7T Audio Features include
Dual stereo speakers
Noise cancellation support
Dolby Atmos.

Its a Tie here

Security

Both the OnePlus 8 and 7T has In-display Fingerprint Sensor and
Face-Unlock support.

Tie

User-Interface

OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7T, Detailed Specification Comparision, is the Upgrade worth it? 18

Both the OnePlus 8 and 7T are running on OxygenOS 10.0 on top of Android 10.0
Tie

Extra

Both 8 and 7T doesn’t have 3.5mm headphone jack,
8 has WiFI 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, while 7T has WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.
Both have NFC enabled.
In the Long run, 8 is the winner.

Pricing

One Plus 8 is Priced at $699 for the 8/128GB model and $799 for the 12/256GB model, but it is said by One Plus that “don’t go by the dollar”, indicating that Indian versions will be cheaper if we do the direct conversion then $699 converts to ~50000INR, and $799 converts to ~58000INR, But as said by one plus, the Indian version will be cheaper so most probably it will at somewhere around 40-42K INR range.

One Plus 7T is Priced at 34,999 INR for the base 8/128GB version.

Conclusion

We have 3 Wins for One Plus 8, 1 Win for One Plus 7T, and we have 6 Ties, well that is what we expect from phones of the same company, but the 3 Wins we have are in Performance, Battery Life and Extra Department.
On the Performance side, we had the Snapdragon 865 vs 855+.
on the Battery Life, we had 4300mAh vs 3800mAh, an increase of 500mAh.
On the Extra department, it was WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 vs WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.

So Here Comes the thing, are these thing worth it to spend at least 6000INR more on a Phone,
then again if you are someone who doesn’t game or do rendering work on your phone, then you most probably won’t notice the difference between the 865 and 855+, even in games for the next 2-3 years you probably won’t see any difference.
The WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 are new techs, if you have some old router on your home or workplace then most probably it won’t have WiFi 6 support, and most of the phones now don’t have Bluetooth 5.1.
The Battery Difference is the Only Proper Point here, but still, 7T has great battery life, its just that 8 had even better battery life.

So Which One you want, if you are some who wants a phone with great camera setup, the second-best android processor, great battery life then 7T is the one you to go for, unless you are into those macro shots. then you will have to go for some other phone as the macro’s from 8 are no good.

If you are someone who does rendering kind of stuff on your phone and wants an absolute performance beast, with good camera setup, great battery life and hates the Camera bump and waterdrop notch on 7T, then you can go for One Plus 8.
