Redmi K30 4G Review

Starting with Design

Rating: 3 out of 5.
Redmi K30 4G - Worthy upgrade to K20? let's see. 12

The Whole Design for the Redmi K30 is very different from its predecessor, the K20 had a very unique design with a metal frame, but the K30 doesn’t have a unique frame, on the back the camera looks like being taken straight from the Huawei Mate 30, and also it has plastic Frame

On the front again it is kind of downgrade from the K20 as it doesn’t have a full-body screen, having a punch-hole camera which looks like a pill at one edge of the screen, the back and the front is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5, and the fingerprint sensor is side-mounted which is kind of unusual overall on the design aspect the K30 feels a bit downgrade from the K20, and doesn’t feel as premium as the K20, but is kind of OKaish

The Redmi K30 has some pro and some cons about the display, let’s start with the cons, even though it’s not a con but when compared to its predecessor the K20 it feels like a con and that is the Display type, on the K30 we are getting a 6.67- inch FHD IPS-LCD display with a density of 395 PPI, even though it is great display, but still, it doesn’t compare to the Super AMOLED we were Getting with the K20.

Also, the hole Punch is not a full hole punch it is two separate holes each containing a camera lens and the space between them is just blacked out using the software and as it is not an AMOLED the black stands out different from the screen.

Now coming towards the Pros, The K30 display has a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the difference can easily be seen in day to day task’s the overall Interface feels more fluid and fast, but it itself becomes a con as the Processor is not powerful enough to push the number of frames required for the 120Hz refresh rate, so occasionally lags can be seen

In terms of performance, we are not getting that much of improvement over the K20, as we are getting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G, which has the same 2×2.2 GHz Kryo 470 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver cores, but on the GPU Front even though we have the same GPU, we are getting a 15% increase in GPU performance due to increased Clock speed of the GPU,

The CPU is good for day to day performance, but due to having a 120Hz refresh rate the CPU is not able to push the number of frames required for the display and one can see occasional lag here and there, but if the refresh rate is set to 60Hz then there are no problems,

Gaming performance is great, 730G was able to give more frames than 60Hz but was not able to reach 120Hz, but overall it was significantly better than any other phone with a 60Hz display,
But overall the Performance increase is not that great from the K20

Memory and Storage

Rating: 4 out of 5.

For Memory and Storage, We have the option of 6/8 GB of RAM and 64/128/256 of UFS 2.1 Storage, Also the storage can be expanded by up to 256Gb through the use of Hybrid Micro Sd Card slot
Multitasking on Redmi K30 is great and is Able to Handle a high level of multitasking.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

We have a Quad camera Setup on the Redmi K30, with the primary camera being a 64MP Sony IMX 686 wide lens with f/1.9 aperture, the second one is an 8MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture, the third one is 2MP Macro lens, and finally, the Fourth one is 2 MP depth sensor

The Primary lens is great, produces some great and shots, having good dynamic range and a good amount of details, also in the night light, the images produces are good
Ultrawide Shots are also good, with a good amount of details and producing good images in low light conditions,

The Macro lens isn’t as great as the other lens, it should have been, the Image quality is just not up to the mark, producing just average Shots
The Depth Sensor is good, edge detection is great and accurate, the portrait and good, and have accurate edges

For selfies, we have A dual Camera setup a 20 MP f/2.2 lens and a 2MP depth sensor
Selfies are great, easily one of the best selfie cameras in this price range
The video quality is also very good and EIS is also available till 4K 30 FPS, the video shoot has good details, not as much at the pics but is good and the Selfie video is also good
overall K30 has a better camera setup than the K20, but it could have been better

one of the Better produced Macro’s From K30

Rating: 4 out of 5.

In the K30 we have a 4500 mAh battery and gives a great battery life, will easily for around 1 day in moderate usage conditions, with regular Data On. and also the 27 Watt charger which comes in the box can charge the battery from 0 to 100% in around 1 hour, which is very good.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Audio is good, having Great volumes and Good Quality, vocals are also crisp and clear

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Security options include a side-mounted fingerprint which is a bit unusual and can be a bit difficult for people to adjust to it, however, the Face-unlock is great and having fast reaction time.

User Interface

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The K30 has MIUI 11 based on Android 10 and the overall experience feels great, and also MIUI is one of the highly customizable UI out there, so many people like it

For connectivity, we have Bluetooth 5.0 and Wifi 5.0
also, the K30 has GPS, NFC, Infrared port, FM Radio Support, and USB Type C Port

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The base model is expected to be priced at around 16000 INR, which is a great price for the Specs offered

Rating: 4 out of 5.

if you go by the specs then K30 is not much of an upgrade from the K20, but if you look at the price of K30, then everything changes, At 16000 you are getting a better processor, somewhat better camera setup, better battery life, at the cost of downgraded display(still it is one of the best IPS-LCD out there but not comparable to the Super AMOLED), Plastic frame instead of a metal frame,

It looks like a very good deal, this time Xiaomi Focused on the Thing which generally people who buy in this range looks for
Good Performance, Good Camera and Good Battery life
Overall if you look, there is nothing bad in this phone excluding the Macro Lens, and every other thing is more or good or better
The Redmi K30 is Great Value for Money Phone

Final Verdict

  • Good CPU/GPU
  • Good Display
  • Good Build Quality
  • Good Camera’s(however Macro could have been better)
  • Great battery life
  • Fast Charging
  • Good Audio
  • User-Friendly UI
  • Infrared Port
  • Aggressive pricing
